Most kids study by rereading, which feels productive but doesn't show them what they don't know yet. A quiz does. This is the whole routine in five steps, start to finish on a real textbook chapter.

More on this: building a review quiz before a test.

If your kid has a test coming up, here's how to help them study without sitting there reading questions out loud.

Most kids study by rereading. It feels productive, but it doesn't show them what they don't know. A quiz does. The trouble is, writing one takes time you don't have.

So here's the whole thing in five steps. It takes about two minutes.

Step one. Snap the pages the test covers. Here, the first two pages of a chapter on volcanoes.

Step two. Open the info menu and set your kid's age. This one is for a twelve year old. The questions, the words, and how close the wrong answers are, all change with the age.

Right below, pick how many questions you want from each photo. Four per photo gives eight questions.

Step three. Add the photos,

and tap Generate Quiz. It reads the pages and writes the questions.

Want them to take it on their own phone? This button sends them a link. For now, we stay on this one.

Step four. Your kid answers one card at a time. After every answer there is a short explanation, so even a wrong answer teaches them something.

At the end, the questions they missed come first, with their answer and the right one. That's your list of what to go over.

Step five. Tap Retry, and they get only the ones they missed.

The options are shuffled each time, so they can't just remember where the right answer was.

Keep going until it says all correct. That's the whole routine.
